Cystic Fibrosis Tower Climb

Jan 26, 2019

Made our way down to San Antonio. Through all of his athletic adventures he believes and bringing awareness. That he has been blessed with the ability to do things others are not able to do. Cystic Fibrosis directly affects my family. When Matt saw an opportunity to participate and a COMPETITIVE stair climb at the Tower of the Americas he was all about it. 75 stories total. He hit the gym for several weeks working those legs and glutes to prepare. My mom made the journey with us, and I have to give a shout out to my family in San Antonio for picking up Matt's packet and dropping it off for us!

This event was pretty awesome, the San Antonio Fire Department was out there participating too. Many of the first responders participated in their FULL GEAR. Matt desperately wanted to borrow some to do it too!

To stagger out people running up narrow stairs, participants were required to run a mile before entering the tower, didn't see that one coming!

Once mom and I saw him enter the stairs, mom went and took other photos around the area before we got on the elevator to meet him at the top. After getting up there and trying to find a spot to wait for him to come in, we turned to see him ALREADY DONE! He only took about 15 minutes to run up 75 flights of stairs! This boy....

The views from the top of the tower were BEAUTIFUL! It also provided for a good cool down for Matt.  There were Mariachi's playing music and dancers dancing showing the rich and wonderful Mexican culture of San Antonio. Mom was having her own party going on!

On the way down, Matt even opted to walk back down the stairs while mom and I took the elevator to enjoy the views through the glass windows once again.

At the bottom down around the grounds of the tower there were vendors and photo opportunities. Avengers is the big craze right now. We mainly wanted a photo with Ironman, since, well you know, Matt is an IRONMAN. He then got really excited for Star Wars and wanted to hold the gun. Yes we are a pretty nerdy couple! It was such a fun morning and I know he is excited to do it again next year. Knowing Matt he will want to run up 75 floors in 10 minutes next time!
