At one race a while back, I think his Ironman or Half Ironman, I saw a little girl holding a sign that said, "Keep going, you never know who you are inspiring!" It has stuck with me ever since. While watching Matt complete his Ironman marathon, I noticed my younger cousin's wheels turning in her head. She eventually looked at me and said, "how old do you have to be to do one of these?" I told her, "18". Again the wheels started to turn, and after a few minutes she turned to me again and said, "So, I can do this before I graduate high school?" I told her she can do anything she wants to do if she puts her mind to it.
Since then she has come over to work run throughout the neighborhood with Matt at least once.
When she texted us a few months ago saying that she wanted to run in the foam glow 5k but needed an adult to run with her, and asked if Matt would do it with her, he eagerly said yes.
Her brother and I went to cheer them on. The lighting at sunset was AMAZING. I learned that sunset has now been named, "Golden Hour" by Gen Z (people born between 1995-2009). As I waited for them to start the run, I was tempted to take some selfies during this "Golden Hour" of perfect lighting. Normally I HATE taking selfies... but it was amazing lighting!
